Taiwan shines at World Robot Olympiad

Taiwan’s robot teams took center stage Nov. 21-23 at the World Robot Olympiad in Sochi, Russia, winning eight prizes in five competitions.

The homegrown droid designers of tomorrow finished fifth in the elementary school competition, third and fifth in the junior high competition, third in the senior high competition, and first and fourth in the college competition. They also claimed fourth and eighth in the football competition.

For the team from National Formosa University’s Mechanical Engineering Department, comprising Chang Si-yu, Lin Wei-shiang, Lu Yi-min and led by NFU associate professor Lin Ming-tzong, the blue-ribbon performance in the college competition was a dream come true.

“The team’s victory in the competition thrilled all of us,” NFU President Jywe Wen-yuh said. “We are very proud of all of the members and are grateful for their tireless efforts in winning the competition.”

According to the E. Sun Robot Association, organizer of Taiwan’s 24-team representation at the olympiad, 1,005 young people from around the world took part in the three-day event themed Robots and Space. (SSC-JSM)
